Liberty Tabletop is made by the only U.S.A flatware manufacturer, Sherril Manufacturing. Liberty Tabletop uses stainless steel that comes from steel mills right here in the U.S.A. Their metal quality is 18-10, the highest quality stainless used in flatware manufacturing. American stainless steel is produced using an average of 85% recycled material and all of their scrap is returned to the steel mill to make the next batch. They do not use harsh chemicals or petroleum-based solvents and all our waste is disposed of properly. They make flatware and silverware built to last a lifetime.

Their primary energy source is electricity produced with hydropower from Niagara Falls. Their business model, “factory to table” is the shortest distance between the domestic steel they purchase and the final destination of a tabletop, eliminating the trip halfway around the world that most flatware travels before it reaches your home.

Artist Process

Liberty Tabletops designs every one of their 40 patterns with their customers in mind. Inspiration for these patterns comes directly their customers and it all starts with a pencil and paper sketch. From there, their master artisan toolmakers make prototypes for the team to review. Ounce approved they are ll Liberty Tabletop flatware is made using domestically sourced and high quality 18/10 stainless steel. They use a die process with modern coining presses to emboss pattern details into flatware ensuring a crisp, deep design. Coils of stainless steel are stamped out into blanks, which then get rolled to a specific thickness depending on the item. Next, the design begins to take shape as the blanks get cut to outline, stamped, and raised. For Populus, a tumbled process was used to bring a matte look to the flatware and to highlight the imperfections – which are often the best part.

Liberty Tabletops sources their steel from American mills, because of the strict environmental regulations at these facilities. Another reason is the health and safety of their workers and customers. Stainless steel is largely a recycled product and American stainless is on average made using 85% recycled material that has been thoroughly checked for “mystery metals” that can be harmful to the end user. Once the steel arrives at their facility in Sherrill, NY the production process begins, fueled by beautiful and responsible hydro-electric power from Niagara Falls.

"While flatware may be a small part of a big project, it’s the little things that set Populus apart. At Liberty, we believe in reducing our carbon footprint by doing everything in house, immensely cutting down on transit emissions. We also believe in strengthening our local economy."
