Our Collaboration

When looking at artists to consider for the hotel we started with “local” Coloradan artists. But we can not think of local without looking at the history of the landscape and the people who once lived here. The original inhabitants of what is now Colorado, are: Apache nation, Arapaho nation, Cheyenne nation, Pueblo and Shoshone tribes, and Ute nation with other tribes who’s territory sometimes extended into Colorado are Comanche tribe, Kiowa tribe, and Navajo tribe.

A twenty minute drive from Civic Center is Cheyemme – Arapaho park, (Tsistsistas-Hinono’ei Park) a 4.6 acre park that honors the Plains Native American tribes.

It felt profoundly important that artists from some of these tribes were represented within the hotel, not just because this is their land, but also because indigenous people are the keepers of the wisdom and ways of living in harmony with the natural world.
