Sean VanderVliet founded Fenway Clayworks in 2017 after nearly 15 years as a hobbits ceramic artist to full-time. The goal of Fenway has been the same since the beginning— to make beautiful, functional ceramics worthy of a place in one's home; ceramics that people can enjoy over time and pass on for generations to come.

Artist Process

Every vessel is hand-thrown on the potters wheel in our Golden, Colorado studio. Each pot is thrown to exact specifications of form and size. Vessels are slowly dried before they are trimmed. After that, they are allowed to dry fully. This is a slow and thoughtful process. Dried pieces will make their way through the initial bisque firing – the first of two before they are complete. Pots undergo their next firing in a gas kiln at Cone 10, ensuring Fenway’s vivid, saturated colors and a lifetime of durability. After the ceramic lamp or jar is completed, it is finished with lathe-turned wood components, perfectly crafted to match the form of it’s ceramic counterpart.

"I operate on the theory of innovation; I develop what I think to be good and then offer it to my customers." Joseph Eichler
